U.S. Air Force honors UH / Castle alumnus John Trifonovitch with a lifetime achievement award. John graduated from Castle High in 1979 and also attended Kaneohe Elementary and King Intermediate. He was also a UH Manoa graduate. His wife was a teacher at Kaneohe Elementary.

Trifonovitch earned his master of business administration and bachelor of science in mathematics from UH Mānoa, and also played percussion in the UH Band on a band scholarship.
